As of now, we’ve received the first three tracks from Miley Cyrus’ visual album Something Beautiful, and honestly… I feel nothing. I’m not being fed by these tracks just yet, and as much as it pains me to say this, they haven’t moved me the way I hoped they would.
I say this not to tear her down but from a place of love and loyalty. I’ve been Miley’s biggest fan since 2007. I want nothing more than to see her succeed, evolve, and thrive. As an artist myself, I admire her constant desire to try something new, to take risks, and to bare her soul to the world. I genuinely love and support everything she puts out no matter what. But this is my honest feedback, coming from both a devoted fan and someone who understands the general public’s perspective.
This project is being labeled as a “visual album,” yet ACT 1 feels underwhelming in that department. So far, we’ve seen beautiful gowns (many from the past), face cards, teary close-ups, a single flower, stylized typography, a simple studio setup, and a bomb. There’s storytelling through spoken word, but as a visual album, it feels incomplete. There’s not enough depth or cohesion to keep viewers truly captivated.
Now, let’s talk about the music.
The promo single and title track, Something Beautiful, is absolutely stunning. I love this song sonically. It’s unexpected, genre-blending, and bold. A true standout. But again, the visual companion feels disappointing. It lacks the power and vision that the song deserves.
This is one of those albums that would have been more impactful if it had been released in full at once. As it stands, listening to it in parts doesn’t give the complete picture. The lead single, End of the World, is good but not great. It doesn’t stand out enough in today’s music landscape to make the impact I believe Miley is capable of. And the visual for that one is unfortunately boring.
Despite all this, I’m still hopeful. Miley always finds a way to surprise us, and I’m keeping my fingers crossed that ACT 2 brings more energy, stronger visuals, and the emotional connection I know she can deliver.
Here’s to more something beautiful to come.
